Personalization tags and How to use them in your campaign

• EmailCampaign offers personalization tags for:
  • • Contact fields (all plans)
    • Deal fields (Sales – Plus, Professional, and Enterprise plans and 2024 plans – Pipelines add-on and Pipelines & Sales Engagement add-on)
    • Account fields (Sales – Plus, Professional, and Enterprise plans and 2024 plans – Pipelines add-on and Pipelines & Sales Engagement add-on)
    • Custom object fields (Marketing – Enterprise, Sales – Enterprise, and 2024 plans – Enterprise)
    • 3rd party custom object fields (all plans. Note: Most 3rd party apps are available on all plans listed but can change based on that app)
• Our system does not support hyphens in user created tags. Any hyphens added to custom fields will be removed
• Personalization tags are not available for use in plain-text campaigns. Because of this, you are not able to edit the default footer in plain-text campaigns 

How personalization tags work

We automatically generate personalization tags for system fields, custom fields you create, and custom fields from 3rd party integrations. In addition, your account comes with a list of standard fields and personalization tags. 

Personalization tags are dynamic. This means that the value of the personalization tag changes based on the contact, deal, or account field value.

For example, if you wanted to send a campaign to a list of contacts, and address each contact by their first name, you would insert the following personalization tag into your email:

%FIRSTNAME%

When contacts receive your email, they will see their name populated in the message.

How to add default values to custom fields.

To add a default value to a field:

1. Click Contacts on the left menu.
2. Click Fields.
3. Click either the Accounts, Contacts, Or Deals tab.
4. Hover your mouse over the field you wish to add a default value to and click the pencil icon that appears.
5. A modal window will appear. Type the default value into the field provided and click “Save.”

Default values will not appear on contact profile records or deal records. If a field does not have a value, the default value is substituted at the time of personalization. 

How to modify personalization tags

Modifiers allow you to change the capitalization of your data when inserted into your campaign. This is useful for ensuring that proper nouns, such as names, are capitalized and common nouns, such as objects, aren’t, for example.

Modifiers are placed after a pipe symbol ( | ). So a first name personalization tag including a modifier to capitalize the first letter would look like this:

%FIRSTNAME|UPPERFIRST%

List of modifiers:

• UPPER (converts entire tag to all uppercase letters)
• UPPERFIRST (converts first letter to uppercase)
• UPPERWORDS (capitalizes the first letter of every word)
• TITLECASE (capitalizes the first letter of every word, and forces all other letters to be lowercase)
• LOWER (converts entire tag to lowercase letters)
• LOWERFIRST (changes the first letter of the text to lowercase)
• LOWERWORDS (changes the first letter of every word to lowercase)
